Welcome to my website.

I am James Riis, the Republican candidate for State Representative in District 58. This district includes Seminole Heights, West Tampa, Wellswood, Riverside Heights, parts of Sulphur Springs, and Tampa International Airport. It is a district with a diverse population in the heart of the city of Tampa.

Today our state faces serious problems that many incumbent legislators and career politicians refuse to properly address. Our election laws promote voter apathy and unrepresentative government. Our education system is choked by political interference. Our personal freedoms are sacrificed to social engineers and ideologues who fear the diversity encouraged by respect for individual rights.

I am a Republican who still believes in the historic libertarian principles of our party. I support limited government, a free market, and individual freedom. These are the principles that made this a great nation and a great state. These are the principles that can promote the security and prosperity of our future.

As your representative in Tallahassee, there are three questions I will always ask before I vote on any bill:

1. Is it constitutional?

2. How will it impact your personal and economic freedoms?

3. What will it cost the taxpayer?

Rather than enact many new laws, I seek to target and eliminate the many regulations that encumber the rights of individual Floridians, property owners, and entrepreneurs.
